Richmond Hospital New Medical Staff Buddy Support Request Form

Welcome to Richmond Hospital! To help make your transition as smooth as possible, the Richmond Hospital Medical Staff Association (RH MSA) offers funding for buddy mentorship for new medical staff, including physicians, nurse practitioners, and midwives. Please complete this form to apply for funding.

New Medical Staff Buddy
To qualify as a buddy, you must be new to Richmond Hospital within the last six months or working as a locum.

Buddy Mentor
To be eligible as a buddy mentor, you must be a member of the Medical Staff Association and familiar with Richmond Hospital. Ideally, mentors should come from the same or a similar department as their buddy. Department Heads are not eligible to participate. While you may not have all the answers, your role is to support your buddy in navigating their new environment.

Guidelines
This funding supports the transition of new staff at Richmond Hospital, providing up to three hours of funding for both the buddy and the buddy mentor. These hours must be used within three months of application and before the fiscal year-end on March 31. At least one hour must involve direct face-to-face support, such as a buddy shift, Zoom meeting, or in-person interaction. The remaining time can be used flexibly for ongoing support through phone calls, texts, or other informal check-ins. We encourage buddies and mentors to establish clear ground rules for their communication, including appropriate times for calls or messages.

This funding is not intended to cover orientation provided by the department head or their delegate. Instead, it is designed to support your transition at Richmond Hospital, helping you integrate smoothly and focus on patient care. Some areas that might be covered:

    • Richmond Hospital:
      1. Navigating the hospital, including the Medical Staff Lounge
      2. Introduction to key departments and personnel
    • Clinical and Administrative Support:
      1. Guidance on hospital protocols and procedures
      2. Understanding call schedules and rotations
      3. Assistance with patient referral processes
    • Community and Social Integration:

      2. Social opportunities within the medical community
      3. Opportunities for learning and connecting with the MSA

Please note that for your FEMS claim to be approved, you are required to complete an evaluation survey after your session.

Time claims on FEMS can be submitted as a single claim or multiple individual claims.
