Project Lead: Dr. Katharine Hudson
“Our ED Simulation-Based Resuscitation Training Project was developed in order to promote team-building, interdisciplinary and interdepartmental relationships, and to improve quality of care for critically ill patients at Richmond Hospital. To this end, we held regular interdisciplinary simulations both in the emergency department and throughout the entire hospital as the “Code Blue” team. I am sure you have all heard “mock code blue” called overhead at some point in the past 3 years!
Our multidisciplinary exercises have brought together physicians, respiratory therapists, nurses, ECG and MRI technicians, occupational and physical therapists, social workers, pharmacists, unit clerks, laboratory supervisors, as well as students of many disciplines. This activity has been invaluable for identifying areas for systems improvement and for improving teamwork and communication. We have truly appreciated the warm receptions we have received by care teams throughout the hospital and the enthusiasm and feedback from all of our participants over the years.
We look forward to expanding our simulation program going forward, so please reach out to myself, Kevin Shi, or Cecilia Kim if you have feedback or would like to be involved in future iterations of simulation involving the ED!”
