The outcome for patients who have intraabdominal emergencies is primarily dependent on time to source control. The Acute Care Surgery Program now allows for the delivery of virtually immediate care to this patient population who are often critically ill. The enhanced manpower and access provided by the ACS program has allowed for safer delivery of care to our emergency surgery patients and better outcomes. It has also decreased the number of cancellations among patients undergoing elective surgery.
