Project Lead: Dr. Kenneth Hughes

Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Kenneth Hughes sees many opportunities to identify and close the gaps in care within surgical services.

“The mandate of the Ministry of Health wants to see no more than 5% of scheduled surgical cases (for hips and knees) waiting over 26 weeks as well as no degradation in performance of other services by March 31, 2019,” reports Dr. Hughes. He adds, “We are looking at a centralized pooled referral process for all ortho surgeons as an effective way to reduce waitlist imbalances, booking errors, and multiple referrals to multiple ortho offices.”

Beginning within the Division of Orthopedics, implementation and success will be expanded in scope and scale across the Department of Surgery.
